The Science in Oxford Event Guide

Published on: 22/06/2018

Love science and live in or around Oxford? Oxfordshire offers up a huge calendar of events for those who love to learn, from family events to free lectures.

Covering everything to the mysteries of space to those found inside our own bodies, science can be found everywhere in Oxford.

At Milton Park, we are proud to be part of Oxfordshire’s STEM community, hosting facilities for scientific businesses and enterprises to both begin and grow in the hub of Oxfordshire.

We have collected a list of amazing science – themed events held across the year in Oxford and Oxfordshire.

Science Oxford

Found in 1985, Science Oxford runs a varied programme of events across the city, covering such wide subjects such as space’s influence on C.S. Lewis through to family friendly events on the science of slime.

The Museum of the History of Science

This popular museum has a range of lectures and events which cover a range of audiences and interests.

A chance to spend an afternoon playing with microscopes through to free lectures from professors at the local universities, check the website for the latest events.

Pint of Science Festival

Due to return in May 2019, the quirky Pint of Science festival is an opportunity to meet the scientists of the future and discuss their research over an informal setting – over a pint at your local! Oxford hosted a range of sold out events at several cosy pubs in 2018. Sign up to their mailing list to be the first to find out about 2019’s events!

Oxford Science & Ideas Festival (IF)

Hosted by Science Oxford, the IF Festival is a showcase of Oxford’s great minds and history, taking in great ideas from science, technology, maths and art.

The festival spans 11 days, and the next one will happen on October 12th – 22nd. The full programme will be released in August and promises to be jam-packed with original and entertaining events exploring a range of scientific subjects. The festival involves researchers, authors, businesses and community groups to explore ideas.

Oxford SciBar

Once a month, the British Science Association hosts a causal science lecture in a bar, and it is free for anyone to attend!

Subjects are always varied but never boring! The next event covers some big questions, as pop science author Peter Atkins discusses ‘the origins of the laws of nature’.

British Society for the History of Science

A wide range of events are hosted at the Museum of the History of Science in Oxford, for both families and those with a curiosity in science, covering everything from practical workshops to science-themed pub quizzes.

British Science Week

Every March, hundreds of events are hosted across the country to celebrate Britain’s scientific heritage and scientific future. These events are incredibly varied, and you will find events for all ages across Oxford. You can also pledge to host an event next year!

Soapbox Science

Soapbox Science is an outreach group ‘bringing science to the people’, where researchers engage with the public about their projects and what they mean across the country.

This year’s Soapbox Science is coming to Oxford later in the summer.
