2015 Road works update

Published on: 19/12/2014

A number of potential local roadworks are due to happen during 2015 as a result of infrastructure projects led by Oxfordshire County Council, The Highways Agency and Network Rail which could impact you travelling to and from Milton Park.

The Milton Park team has been in constant contact with these parties with two main objectives always in mind:

1. To campaign on behalf of all Milton Park based companies to ensure the parties involved in the schemes are aware of the traffic implications they may cause.

2. To be able to inform you of the scheme plans and potential impact it may have on your travel and commuting as early as possible.

Travel update from Oxfordshire County Council - 18 December 2014

Foxhall Road bridge works
This is part of Network Rail’s electrification scheme and is on schedule to be complete during January 2015.

Steventon Bridge
Network Rail has put the bridge demolition work at Steventon on hold while they examine possible alternative solutions.

A34 Milton Interchange Hamburger roundabout
In January 2015 work will begin on a £10.6m scheme to create a “hamburger” style roundabout at Milton Interchange, which allows traffic straight through to connect the A4130 with the northbound on slip. Additional capacity will also be created on the roundabout and connecting roads to improve Science Vale UK Enterprise Zone’s connections with the A34 and the wider national road network.

At the time of writing, the county council is in discussion with the Highways Agency to finalise the details of the traffic management and with contractors regarding the start date. Work will start in January.

A34 Chilton drainage works
This is a Highways Agency scheme. Essential maintenance will be taking place to the drainage system along the A34 north and southbound carriageways between the A4130 Milton Interchange and A4185 Chilton Junction.

During December 2014 and January 2015, there will be overnight lane closures to allow for vegetation and ditch clearance and some pipe repairs. From late January, 24 hour narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction will be in place to allow for the main drainage repairs to take place including replacement of filter drains, carrier pipes, gully connections, headwalls and sections of the safety barrier. More information can be found at: http://www.highways.gov.uk/roads/road-projects/a34-didcot-drainage

A34/A4185 Chilton slip roads
The county council is currently discussing a January start on constructing north facing slip roads onto the A34 at Chilton. This £10.8m project will also enhance the accessibility of the Science Vale UK Enterprise Zone. It is expected that initial enabling work will begin in January 2015 and more information will be provided shortly on the timing of individual phases. This will also include improvements to the A4185 Newbury Road across the A34.

Featherbed Lane
Work will commence in January to provide edge strengthening and carriageway widening on straight intermediate sections not requiring land acquisition.
