New 20mph speed limit to be trialled at Milton Park

Published on: 09/09/2020

In response to last year's Travel Survey, working with our Travel Forum and Bike Users' Group and feedback from June's Return to Work survey, we are going to be trialling the reduction in speed limit throughout Milton Park from 30mph to 20mph.

This is part of our 2040 Vision urbanisation project to work to make the Park more cycle and pedestrian-friendly, enhance our community and align ourselves with similar measures which are being implemented across Oxfordshire and further afield in towns and cities across the UK.

The trial traffic measures will include:

- a solid white edge of carriageway marking 0.5 metres from the kerbline along the whole length of Park Drive to reduce the visual width of the carriageway

- 20mph speed limit roundels painted on the road

- road signs to warn of new layout ahead and new speed limit in force

- 20mph electronic speed signs

- additional zebra crossings with zigzag markings along Park Drive by building 9, the lagoon in front of building 180 and near the Park Drive/Eastern Avenue junction

- a rainbow crossing marked between the existing pelican crossing and the Park Drive/Jubilee Avenue junction similar to ones in Oxford and Reading (pictured below).

Philip Campbell, MEPC commercial director, Milton Park said: "You may have read previous communications that we have been planning this trial urbanisation enhancement for a few months in response to the volume of feedback we have received. We are excited that these trial improvements will be starting very shortly which we hope will benefit everyone, especially pedestrians and cyclists. My thanks to Veronica Reynolds and Chris Kimber-Nickelson for the work done to prepare for this project."

We will continue to keep you updated on this travel improvement project and monitor the trial.
