The Park Club receives funding to help adults with disabilities

Published on: 12/08/2016

Get active in Oxfordshire

Soll Leisure, managers of the Park Club have successfully applied for Sport England’s Small Grants funding stream to support adults with a range of disabilities to lead healthier, more active lifestyles.

Sport England’s Small Grants uses Lottery funding to make awards of between £300 and £10,000 to not-for-profit organisations to help young people (aged 14+) and adults take on and keep a sporting habit for life.

The ‘Disability Active’ programme received £3,569 in funding to deliver weekly gym and swim sessions for adults with a range of disabilities at the Park Club here on Milton Park.  The sessions will benefit from the support of a qualified instructor, giving each participant the opportunity to develop their fitness and meet new people in a fun and sociable environment.

The programme will launch on the first week in October, where participants are invited to come along and try both the gym and swim sessions for free.

The programme will then last for a year with gym sessions taking place on Tuesdays (10:30-12:00) and Swimming on Fridays (10:30-12:00). All sessions are provided at a subsidised price of £2.50 with further opportunities available after the project to continue exercising.

Richard Claydon, Soll Leisure Community Development Manager, said, “We are delighted to receive Sport England funding to enable adults with a range of disabilities in Oxfordshire to access gym and swim sessions. Being able to provide instructor support for the participants will help to bring knowledge and confidence for the participants to improve their fitness and lead a healthier lifestyle”.

To register your interest for the ‘Disability Active’ project please contact the Community Development team on info@parkclub.co.uk or 01235 861289.  Alternatively you can see more information at www.parkclub.co.uk .
