Raising dough: Macmillan coffee morning a huge success

Published on: 01/10/2015

Amongst a sea of banners, balloons and delicious cakes many people from the Park gathered to enjoy and raise money by being part of the world’s biggest coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support on Friday 25 September at the Innovation Centre.

Over a whopping £600 was raised through the delicious cakes that were on sale which were sold by the slice, and the many fundraising activities. There were plenty of winners thanks to the generosity of people and businesses for the raffle prizes and competitions.

Congratulations to the winners who included:

Bake off Star Bakers - Clare and Steve from The Purely Recruitment Company with their pink castle masterpiece!
Beat the Buzzer Competition - Alex from CTS who completed the challenge in an amazing 53 seconds!
Guess the number of sweets in the jar - Andy our UPS delivery driver guessed 650 and the answer was 649!
Guess the number of hundreds and thousands on the cake - Cassie from Purely Recruitment Company was still a few thousand out but it was close enough!

A big thank you to all those businesses and people who donated prizes including:

Badgemore Golf Club
Clearwater Hampers
Creations Hair and Beauty
Crossland Employment Solicitors
Didcot Wave Leisure Pool
Hadden Hill Golf Club
Park Place Brasserie
Ridgeway Volkswagen
The Park Club
Wildwood Kitchen

Special thanks goes to Nikki Godding, Centre Manager for the Innovation Centre, who so expertly organised the whole event, and managed to collect the many raffle and prize donations from local businesses.

Nikki said: “I am sure Macmillan will be over the moon with the contribution made and it will all go towards supporting someone affected by cancer, from diagnosis through treatment and beyond.”

So far, from this year’s coffee morning, Macmillan has raised more than £2 million. To find out more, please visit: http://coffee.macmillan.org.uk
