Tokamak Energy in 'Disruptors to Watch' list

Published on: 05/12/2019

Tokamak Energy, the fusion energy pioneer, based at 173 Brook Drive, has been named as one of ten Disruptors to Watch in the Sunday Times Fast Track 100.

Disruptors to Watch focuses on companies with the potential to disrupt their market and takes into account factors such as business model, management team and investor credibility, as well as total funds raised.

Tokamak Energy was selected in recognition of the potential its fusion energy solution has to fundamentally change the energy landscape through the provision of a new, safe, and cost-effective source of clean energy at scale.

In 2019, Tokamak Energy made important progress towards its target of fusion power generation by 2025 and a commercial power plant by 2030. This included significant developments in the magnet technology that is required to contain the hot fusion fuel. In April, Tokamak Energy created the highest ever magnetic field in a spherical tokamak and is currently working towards its next milestone of 100 million degrees – fusion temperatures.

Jonathan Carling, CEO of Tokamak Energy, said: “Being named one of The Sunday Times Fast Track Disruptors to Watch is a great way for us to end 2019, especially after achieving some major development milestones towards fusion energy during the year. We firmly believe we have the potential to transform the way the world will source its power in the future. We are working hard to deliver an energy source which is clean, safe and accessible for all, reducing mankind’s reliance on fossil fuels.”
