Travel Survey: results, improvements & prize draw winners

Published on: 02/12/2014

More than 1,000 people from across 90+ companies responded to the Milton Park Travel Survey 2014, giving their views on what’s working and what can be improved upon in terms of travelling to and from Milton Park.

The key findings were:

  • Start and finish times have remained the same, with the most number of people arriving between 8.30am and 9.00am, and leaving between 5.00pm and 5.30pm
  • We have seen an increase in people coming from the OX11 postcode at the new housing around Didcot and Reading (RG) postcodes
  • The majority of people’s journey time is between 15-30 minutes, followed by under up to 15 minutes, which are unchanged from previous years’ surveys
  • There has been an increase in the number of people cycling, walking, using the train and Milton Park Shuttle Bus to get to and from work; with public bus and car sharing numbers staying the same
  • The Milton Park Shuttle Bus received very positive comments and is seen as a valued service. A number of people particularly praised the service and bus drivers who go above and beyond
  • People told us that they would be encouraged to cycle to Milton Park or increase the frequency with which they cycle to work if there were more dedicated cycle paths to and across Milton Park, and safer and better lit cycle routes
  • The same applied to people walking to work: better footpaths on and off Milton Park, and crossing facilities were cited as reasons that would help encourage them to walk
  • Since the Milton Park car share scheme was launched with the Oxfordshire Liftshare scheme in early 2014, there has been a small uptake with people using it every day, and those using it on some days

Dawn Crawford, Assistant Facilities and Travel Manager at Milton Park said: “Thank you to everyone who took the time to complete this survey. It helps to inform us as to how we can continue to make travelling to and from Milton Park as easy as possible. It’s great to see that people are actively trying to commute to Milton Park by alternative ways, from cycling to the train.

“In 2015, we will look to further promote the Car Share scheme and encourage occupiers to sign up. We are also hoping to increase capacity on the Shuttle Bus for early 2015 by introducing a third Shuttle Bus for peak times. Also we anticipate launching a new Shuttle Bus Oyster-style card to replace existing ones in Q2 2015. Comments around the cycle paths and bus services will be discussed with the relevant parties and providers and we will keep you updated.

“And finally, we are very much aware that there are a number of potential travel issues which will be happening during 2015 as a result of infrastructure projects led by Oxfordshire County Council, The Highways Agency and Network Rail. Please be assured that we are in constant contact with these parties to ensure that we can inform you of their plans and potential impact it will have on travel and commuting. Please keep checking the People & The Park website for regular updates.”
