Occupier Exscientia, a world-leading precision medicine company pioneering in AI drug discovery and development, has been presented with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation at Milton Park.
The Lord Lieutenant of Oxfordshire, Mrs Marjorie Glasgow BEM, presented the award to Exscientia’s Chief Executive, Professor Andrew Hopkins, on behalf of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The accolade acknowledged Exscientia’s AI-driven drug discovery platform, which takes new molecules from design to clinical development with unprecedented efficiency and with discovery times consistently around 12 to 15 months.
The presentation of the award was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic but officially took place on the Park earlier in November. Attendees included the Chairman of Oxfordshire County Council, Felix Bloomfield, Oxfordshire’s Vice Lord Lieutenant Brian Buchan and Deputy Lieutenant Elizabeth Paris, and Philip Campbell of Milton Park.
Those present were given a tour of Exscientia’s premises at Milton Park, which included the opportunity to view its cutting-edge automation laboratory.
Accepting the award, Professor Andrew Hopkins FRS FMedSci, founder and CEO of Exscientia, said: “We are honoured to receive the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Innovation. It recognises the great strides that Exscientia is making in AI-led drug design and development.
“Our technology platform has resulted in the world’s first ever AI-designed drug candidates to enter Phase 1 clinical testing in collaboration with Sumitomo Pharma Co., Ltd. and another Milton Park occupier, Evotec. Winning this award is testament to the hard work, dedication and passion of our team, and I am delighted to accept it on their behalf.”
Philip Campbell, Commercial Director at Milton Park, added: “We’re thrilled for the Exscientia team for the recognition they’ve deservedly been given in receiving this prestigious award.
“We are delighted they have chosen to locate their world-class labs here at Milton Park. It’s inspiring to see them go from strength to strength. Many congratulations to Andrew and all his team.”
