Empowering Women in Business

Published on: 04/10/2019

The flagship event on the bfa calendar looks at the working landscape for women in business in 2019.

The British Franchise Association (bfa) is excited to announce the return of Empowering Women in Business (EWIB), designed to highlight the challenges for women in the workplace and champion female entrepreneurial spirit. Over the years EWIB has seen hundreds of Britian’s best businesswomen in attendance and sharing their experiences. This year, the event will be held on November 14 at the Oxford Belfry.

It is women-only and ideal for females wishing to discuss the key challenges in business and listen to inspirational businesswomen talk about their experiences. With female-led businesses contributing a staggering £105bn to the UK economy, it’s imperative these achievements are recognised, and EWIB is as much about championing excellence in business as discussing the present and future for women in business.

This year, the prevailing theme is ‘the changing culture of business’, with a particular focus on confidence and visibility. Speakers include prominent businesswomen such as Grace Harding, CEO of South African seafood restaurant chain Ocean Basket, as well as keynote speaker Penny Haslam, former BBC business reporter and Panorama presenter, with a key focus on shrugging off ‘imposter syndrome’. Other influential businesswomen speaking complement the event.

Pip Wilkins, CEO of the bfa, founded EWIB seven years ago with the intent of connecting women in franchising, before broadening the event to all businesswomen.

“Empowering Women in Business is an event that opens dialogue on the needs, struggles and achievements of businesswomen, whether that be in the general current climate or in our own personal journeys.”

She continues: “The positive messages we received regarding EWIB last year confirmed the need to further discuss workplace culture and its evolution, as well as the culture surrounding women in general. We aim for all attendees to leave EWIB having thoroughly looked at their role in the workplace and to have made some friends and connections in the process.”
