Chilton slips – work has started

Work on the Chilton slip roads has now started, Galliford Try, the contractors for Oxfordshire County Council have started on site. The work at this stage comprises site set up, initial earthworks and trial excavations including utility diversions. Most of this work will be off the highway. Utility diversions and trial excavations in the highway will, at times, require temporary traffic signals. This phase of the scheme will continue from now until early October.

About the scheme
The work, which is the council are working with Highways England on, will involve constructing north-facing slip roads to connect the A34 with the A4185 Newbury Road and Hagbourne Hill at the Chilton Interchange. The finished scheme will enhance the accessibility of the Science Vale UK Enterprise Zone area as well as providing an easier route to the A34 for local residents.

Other schemes in the area
The Milton Interchange and Hagbourne Hill improvements are continuing. The Milton Interchange is progressing well, the second phase of the new bridge construction has started, the current estimated completion date is April 2016. Further work on Hagbourne Hill will start on 14th September, the section between Chilton village and Chilton road will be the first phase of this scheme. This scheme is due to complete in Summer 2016.
