Grants available for SME manufacturing companies

Published on: 19/10/2015

Small to medium sized manufacturing companies are being helped to grow using grants and subsidies thanks to the Government’s Business Growth Service.

A small manufacturing company can receive over £10,000 worth of grants and subsidies to support their growth, with the benefit of a dedicated person working alongside them and leading them through the journey.

Depending on manufacturing companies’ size and growth plans, you can be assisted in one of two ways:

1. Consultancy Grant - Providing a grant of up to £3,000 covering the cost towards an external specialist’s help, whereby a company may need assistance in the following areas:

  • Strategy - creating the right foundations to growth, developing a strategy, understanding how to systemise the business, or anything else
  • Innovation – helping to create a prototype, design a new product, test and certify a new product, etc
  • Efficiency – helping companies improve their processes and systems to support delivery to customers and obtain healthier profit
  • Supply chain – putting companies in contact with other companies, consultants, experts that they need to help overcome a problem

2. Heavily subsidised Coaching Programme – Allowing small to medium sized companies to access and work with top growth coaches, who would normally charge from £500 - £1,000 per day. This service is aimed at companies from one employee through to 250 of which the Government’s scheme pays the coach on the results. This programme has been a success since the Government created it and companies that join, on average, grow four times faster than otherwise.

Non-manufacturers can also benefit from this service, through the coaching programme, however, the added consultancy grant is only available to manufacturing companies.
