Oxford Animal Sanctuary needs your help

Published on: 21/04/2014

OAS (The Oxfordshire Animal Sanctuary) is in danger of having to close down due to financial difficulties. The company which provides hundreds of abandoned animals with a second home, currently only have sufficient funds to last for another 12 months.

Like many charities, OAS relies on legacies for over 40% of their income and unfortunately over the past year, these have not arrived. Since 1967, the sanctuary has cared for and re-homed over 18,000 animals that would have otherwise been sadly put down.

The charity is currently looking after 105 dogs and 135 cats which is an all time high. This makes OAS the largest independent animal rescue shelter in Oxfordshire and with rising numbers unfortunately the sanctuary is running out of both space and money.

Iain Atkin, Centre Manager at OAS said: “It is a three-point plan. First we need to go to and beg for money in order to keep going. Then we do the cleaning-up, and get people to sponsor individual kennels. Then we can get staff in lovely new uniforms, make the shelter more attractive, and start to re-home dogs.

You can help this great cause by making a donation or by encouraging anybody you may know that is thinking of getting a dog, cat or rabbit to consider one of the shelter’s residents.
