Sensium Healthcare to raise money for charity

Published on: 24/11/2015

Sensium Healthcare, part of the Toumaz Group, based on Milton Park, are the designers of SensiumVitals® a wireless system for monitoring the vital signs of hospital patients.

The system is based on a lightweight patch, which is applied to the patient’s chest. It takes readings of heart rate, respiration and temperature every two minutes - and issues alerts to nurses if patients show signs of deterioration.

As part of the company’s product development programme, the Sensium team often use themselves as test subjects wearing the patch. When Berker Tas, VP of Healthcare Engineering at Sensium, offered the lame excuse of having too hairy a chest to participate, plans to remedy the situation were soon hatched.

Berker has now agreed to have his chest waxed for charity at the Sensium annual Christmas party on 15th December. Not to be outdone, volunteers have been pushed forward from other Toumaz sites, to atone for their positions of privilege and power. Bob Heads, Vice-President of Engineering will wear high heels for the day and Mike Warren, Vice-President of Operations, will look very fetching in an animal onesie.

The “Waxathon” is raising money for Excellent Development, a charity which supports some of the world’s poorest people to transform their own lives. They support communities in rural drylands to build sand dams, which provide safe water for life for £10 per person.

The waxing will be carried out by the ladies at Creations Hair & Beauty, who are based at the Park Centre.

Sensium have already raised over £1,300 for this excellent cause, and hope to raise more before the big day. If you would like to join in and help by making a donation, please visit: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/JamesStock2
