Job Description

Your first mission will be to lead the setup and management of their newly awarded Innovate UK grant, coordinating a consortium engineering project from a blank slate. You’ll build the operational backbone—establishing systems for scheduling, timekeeping, and cost labelling—and keep them on track to deliver technical milestones, claims, and reports. Beyond the grant, you’ll support their broader technical projects and step into operational gaps—whether that’s spinning up new internal processes, improving documentation flows, or streamlining how the team works together. You’ll work onsite with engineers and executives, shaping the internal structure of a deep-tech company as it scales. If you thrive in ambiguity, learn fast, and bring discipline to big ideas—this is your kind of adventure.

Responsibilities:
  • Set up and lead the day-to-day management of their Innovate UK project: schedules, cost tracking, scope, reporting, and claims via the Innovation Funding Service (IFS)
  • Coordinate milestones, meetings, metics, and documentation across technical teams and external partners
  • Build simple operational systems, from expense labeling to internal documentation libraries and automated workflows, to help the team move faster
  • Support technical projects by bringing structure, visibility, and follow-through to complex cross-functional efforts

The ideal candidate

You might be a fit if…
…you know about:
  • Innovate UK project requirements (especially IFS submissions and claims)
  • Technical project management in engineering and systems development
  • Operational tools and systems that make fast-moving teams more effective
  • Working onsite with technical teams and adapting quickly to what’s needed
….you’ve had experiences like these:
  • Translating technical work into structured project deliverables
  • Setting up tracking, documentation, expense systems from scratch to align objectives and make progress and challenges more visible
  • Supporting early-stage teams as they establish and grow operations
  • Serving as the hub between engineers, business development, and external collaborators
…you enjoy:
  • Creating order and flow to make work life easier in high-speed, high-complexity environments
  • Working with technical builders and learning how things work under the hood
  • Rolling up your sleeves to solve unglamorous but essential challenges
  • Helping a pioneering company grow into what it’s meant to become
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience managing Innovate UK or similar public-private engineering projects
  • Project management certification (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP, APM)
