Second to naan fundraising

Published on 19 October 2022

The recent visit from Gully, the ultimate Indian street food van raised £890.31 for The Didcot Powerhouse Fund.

To celebrate National Curry Week, we teamed with the UK’s first interactive Indian Street Food Truck to offer a special lunchtime treat for people working at Milton Park. Occupiers had the choice of naan wraps or rice boxes with any of the four fillings.

Service was limited to two hours over lunchtime or until they ran out of food with a suggested donation of £6 per serving in support of local charities.

Milton Park is proud to be a founding member and quantum donor to The Powerhouse Fund.

The Didcot Powerhouse Fund is a ‘Donor Advised Fund’ and was set up to address inequality in the wider Didcot area which has a mixed profile of neighbourhoods where affluent areas adjoin those with greater need, placing some of Didcot’s wards in the top 20% of the Index of Multiple Deprivation in England which encompasses seven key social measures.

Fuelled by financial donations from an initial core group of businesses and individuals in 2021, the Fund is managed by the Oxfordshire Community Foundation. An annual grant-giving process will be used to help community support bodies sustain their important work, sharing just under £90,000 across 15 eligible organisations in 2022, ranging from £500 to £13,000. The theme this year was ‘Supporting children, young people, and families as we emerge from the pandemic’.

This year is its first year of grant-giving. Having received 31 grant applications for £232,000, the Fund is keen to attract many more local business donors, churches and individuals to help fundraise or make donations.

Thank you to everyone that made a donation. We know there were queue at the Bee House but think you’ll agree it was a worthy cause and the food was delicious!
