Signal Yard buses join growing Milton Park fleet
Milton Park has expanded its branded bus fleet with the introduction of three new Signal Yard buses, unveiled during the official opening celebrations for Signal Yard in September.
The new additions, which will operate alongside Milton Park’s existing fleet of branded buses, reflect the continued success of the Park’s partnership with Go Thames Valley’s Thames Travel business and its commitment to making sustainable travel an attractive option for occupiers, residents and visitors.
The three new double decker buses were showcased at the ‘Hello Signal Yard’ launch event, where more than 850 people gathered to celebrate the opening of Milton Park’s new social and retail destination. Two were displayed on Park Drive during the event, while a third operated a complimentary shuttle service around the Park, helping occupiers travel to and from the festivities.
The trio have each been given names beginning with the letter ‘S’, continuing a tradition established in 2024 when occupiers voted to name Milton Park’s original fleet of branded buses. Rather than holding a public vote this time, three organisations involved in the delivery of Signal Yard were invited to nominate names.
The newest members of the fleet are:
- Sampson, nominated by ASA Landscape Architects
- Silvana, nominated by Total Projects
- Stella, nominated by CBRE.
The naming tradition began after Milton Park renewed its bus contract partnership in 2024, increasing the frequency and capacity of services to and from the Park. Occupiers were invited to vote for their favourite names beginning with the letter ‘M’, resulting in buses being named Mabel, Merlin, Maverick, Maximus, Monty, Miles, Mufasa, Morse, Mario, Myrtle, Marley, Matilda and Mungo.
Today, the Milton Park-branded fleet plays an important role in supporting sustainable travel across Oxfordshire, connecting employees and visitors with one of the UK’s leading science and technology communities. The introduction of the new Signal Yard buses builds on that commitment, while celebrating the partnerships that helped bring Milton Park’s new social heart to life.
Veronica Reynolds, Sustainability and Community Manager at Milton Park, said:
“Our branded buses have become a familiar and much-loved part of life at Milton Park. What started as a simple naming competition has evolved into something people genuinely engage with, whether that’s spotting their favourite bus on the road or keeping an eye on the real-time information screens to see which ones have arrived.
“Adding Stella, Sampson and Silvana to the fleet is a fun way to celebrate the teams that helped bring Signal Yard to life while reinforcing our commitment to sustainable travel. As Milton Park continues to grow, investing in public transport remains a key part of creating a more connected and accessible destination for our occupiers, visitors and local communities.”
As part of Milton Park’s 2040 Vision, investment in public transport continues to play a key role in creating a more connected, sustainable and accessible destination for occupiers, residents and visitors alike.
