Milton Park has appointed design and interior experts Object Space Place (OSP) to work with us to rejuvenate and create a new vision for the Park Centre.

We caught up with the OSP team to learn more about the company’s creative approach to designing brilliant spaces.

Could you tell us a bit about Object Space Place?

We are a London-based sustainable hospitality design company, working across architecture, interiors and branding.

Over the past five years, we’ve been researching the complex sustainability challenges facing both the hospitality industry and the design sector and believe we have a duty to understand the construction and development supply chain to minimise the ongoing impact of what we do.

As a result, our Restorative Design Framework is based on the principles of a circular economy, a sustainable model which aims to design out waste and pollution, keep natural resources in use and minimise carbon emissions.

What kind of spaces does OSP specialise in?

We specialise in hospitality-focused projects which have a strong agenda when it comes to sustainability.

This can take the form of one-off restaurants like Apricity in London (currently a finalist for Sustainable Interior of the Year) or doing multiple sites for larger clients like GAIL’s bakery. We also offer sustainable design consultancy to larger organisations like L’Oreal and The National Trust.

What are some of the more important aspects OSP considers when designing and refurbishing spaces?

Whilst solving the issues around making things sustainable is our core focus, we think the most important thing is to remember that even though most people logically want ‘sustainable’ hospitality spaces, emotionally, they are motivated and excited by other things.

In short, what people really want are great spaces that happen to be sustainable.

Sustainability cannot be an excuse for a poor experience – it needs to be used to make the whole project better. Our goal is to create great spaces which deliver the absolute minimum environmental impact and maximum social impact.

Can you tell us a little bit about your aims and next steps for this Milton Park project?

It seems to us that there is an exciting opportunity to create a place which can form the social heart of the Park – a destination where everyone gravitates to because there are places to eat and drink, sit with friends, hold bigger events, or simply escape the desk or lab for a bit. Ultimately, we want to create a welcoming place where people will really enjoy spending their time.

Right now, we’re gathering as much existing information and technical data as possible to determine the feasibility of different ideas. Following this, we’ll then develop some early concept work illustrating our initial vision of the Park Centre, which we’ll showcase at our consultation event in the new year.

We can’t wait to bring the project to life and are extremely excited to unlock the full potential of this space on the Park!

The consultation event will be held on 26 January 2023 between 12-2pm at the Bee House, giving you the chance to find out more and have your say on the initial plans for the Park Centre – we look forward to seeing you there!
