Park People: Jay Walsh and Cody Butler, Park Club

Published on 29 January 2024

Back to results

Embarking on a new year filled with resolutions and fresh beginnings, the Milton Park team caught up with Park Club wellness coaches Jay and Cody, the faces behind the Park’s on-site gym and Running Club. The group meets every Monday lunchtime, running from 12pm to 12:45pm.

Running Club, Pilates and Bootcamp classes are all free to those working at Milton Park.

Tell us a bit about Milton Park’s Running Club in your own words…

Jay: Our Running Club meets every Monday at noon for a 40 minute, 5k run around the village. It’s open to everyone working on the Park, whether you’re a new starter or a seasoned marathon runner. All abilities and paces are equally welcome.

Cody: Besides getting fit, it’s a great way to make friends and connect with others who work at Milton Park. Like the Pilates and Bootcamp classes, the Running Club is complimentary to all individuals working at the park, so it’s an accessible way to kickstart your wellbeing and fitness whilst building connections at Milton Park.

What does your role as a Wellness Coach involve, Jay?

Jay: As a wellness coach, my focus is on helping members feel comfortable, especially beginners. From providing guidance on techniques and delivering basic inductions, to creating personalised 1-2-1 programmes, my aim is to make fitness accessible and fun.

I’m also looking into emphasising Park Club’s strength and conditioning offerings, incorporating more barbell weight-focused activities that promote muscle growth.

Cody, how do your responsibilities differ from Jay’s?

Cody: I’m a certified personal trainer and have recently become a qualified CrossFit coach. A lot of our responsibilities cross over, but I specialise in GP referrals, supporting clients with injuries through a personalised 12-week programme. I also work with Jay across various events, challenges, and classes, all of which are complimentary to members and come with exciting prizes.

What do you enjoy and value most about your job and working at Park Club?

Cody: The overall atmosphere is one of happiness and friendliness, with individuals actively testing their fitness limits and exploring new challenges. I really enjoy being able to help people on that journey.

Jay: The most rewarding aspect of my job is supporting the progress of our clients, bringing people out of their shell and watching their confidence and willingness to try new things increase. Park Club is a charity gym, with profits going towards good causes. We’re all about helping people feel healthier, happier and more at ease when using the gym.

Is there any exciting news you’d like to share?

Cody: We’ve recently become affiliated with Hiroxs, an international physical fitness event, and we’ll be offering training throughout the year for participants. Additionally, we’re introducing a new functional fitness area and classes, although details are under wraps for now, so stay tuned to find out more.

How do memberships work for occupiers on the Park?

Jay: Some occupiers opt for a corporate membership, and if not, they’re eligible for a discounted Park Club membership.

What do you enjoy most about being located at the Park?

Cody: The events run by Milton Park at Bee House foster a strong sense of community, with everyone participating. I enjoy actively supporting the Running Club and encouraging people from various businesses at Milton Park to connect, network and have fun whilst improving their fitness and wellbeing.

Jay: The working environment here is pleasant, safe and secure, and the Park is always well-maintained. There are plenty of engaging on-site activities going on and I’m a big fan of the Milton Feast!
